MODIFYING YOUR WHIZZKID

Tim Smith, sc100 Enthusiasts Club Vice Chairman

If you enjoyed LOTUS, SUZUKI AND THE WHIZZKID your appetite for modifications may well have been whet.

Two mod options available to Whizzkid owners in the early '80s

Fit a Janspeed engine kit, and no, it's no longer available. This consisted of a gas flowed head, tubular exhaust manifold and two twin choke side draft carburettors. Conversion cost around £1,500 over fifteen years ago. (Remember the car was only £2,400 when new). For more information see More Whizz for the Kid, an article by Ian Wearing
Fit a turbo charger. This was done on one of my cars by the previous owner in about 1984 by Allard Engineering and cost about £2,000 (crikey). Although the performance was improved, it was a bit of a Heath Robinson affair, and I haven't touched the car for a while. Maybe I should take it all off and start again
